In the wake of his father’s untimely death, a young boy is left in the eerie solitude of a sprawling country estate with his newly widowed stepmother. Nelly and Nadine is the unlikely love story of two women who fall in love on Christmas Eve 1944, in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. For many years, their relationship remained a secret.

Nelly & Nadine (2022) is a documentary film co-written and directed by Magnus Gertten

After the German defeat, a boat full of women who survived the concentration camps was brought to Sweden. Someone filmed the event and director Gertten has already identified two people in the film and made films about them.

They were separated, but both survived

This is the third film and it features two women: Nelly Mousset Vos and Nadine Hwang. The two women met and fell in love in the Ravensbrück concentration camp.

Years later, Nelly’s granddaughter contacted filmmaker Gertten, who made this thoughtful documentary about a lesbian couple who traveled all over the world to be together. I thought it was an exceptional film and gave it a 10.
